Haddon W. Robinson makes an interesting statement in his excellent book, Biblical Preaching. “In many sermons the biblical passage read to the congregation resembles the national anthem played at a football game - it gets things started but is not heard again during the afternoon.” Unfortunately this is true far too often. I have always felt that the Word of God should be more than a launching platform for a minister’s own thoughts and ideas. This conviction has caused me to preach in series for much of my ministry. I have noticed that believers appreciate seeing the major themes of the Bible unfold through a series of messages on a certain book or biblical character. When believers see that the heroes of the faith struggled with the same issues they face or that the Bible deals in depth with the very problems and questions they have, it gives them a new appreciation for the Word and for the God Who transmitted it to us.
It is with this in mind that I have put together this little faith rest stop along the information highway. I hope you enjoy it and are blessed.
A few explanations are in order. The sidebar to the right lists essays in the order they are published under “Recent Entries” with the most recent entry at the top. Each entry falls into one of several “Categories.” While entries appear with recent published dates first, if you would like to follow a thread, you should begin with the first entry which will be found at the bottom of the category listing. Entries for any given thread are numbered in sequential order. Character studies are given names (i.e. Bridge Builder is on the life of Abraham), while book series are identified accordingly.

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and your browser will prompt you about adding this site to whatever application you chose to notify you of changing content. If you feel like RSS sounds too much like the IRS for comfort, please use the comment box at the bottom of any article to send me a message with your email address. I will include your email to my distribution list and notify you by email concerning new postings, including the category the posting is under. I will not publish your address for others to see.
The “Archives” tab lists entries under the month they were published. And finally, the “Blogroll” is a list of other sites I think you might find helpful and uplifting. Simply click on anything listed here to visit the site.
